Dr. Anne Lewis

"I taught John in his undergraduate work in the classroom as well as piano studies, and was his senior recital coach/pianist. He has been a sterling alumnus for the Averett music department.John has always had a great seriousness and respect for training and holding himself to the highest standard of leadership and performance. He was a terrific asset as a student leader with our choir and as a founding member of the pep band, which has since developed into a fullfledged band program. John was also active in religious life on campus, as well as his successful leadership as an African-American music director in two predominately white churches in Danville, Virginia. John’s post-graduate work with the Carnegie affiliates has been tremendous for honing his skills and confidence in leadership."
